Some Tips for making good recordings

What are the general requirements for voice recording for the gallery?

When recording your own reading of one or more poems for the gallery, please follow these general guidelines:

  1. Make a separate file for each poem.
  2. Record in mono: there’s really no point in stereo recording from a single microphone.
  3. Make sure the microphone is not picking up extraeneous noises e.g. radios or TV in the background or the sound of your computer's fan.
  4. Use an appropriate recording level and distance from the microphone to ensure reasonable quality.    The most common problem is too little volume
  5. Say the title of the poem at the beginning (not your name) and then read the poem.
  6. Save your recordings in WAV, MP3 or WMA format.

FREE Software for recording on your PC
